Any fractal is made by a simple, iterative (repeat) process. But this simple repetition can produce shapes of unbelievable complexity. Koch's curve, for example, is made by putting a triangular kink in any straight line as in the diagram.
More repeats make for more complexity.
Zooming in on any section will reveal detail no different to anywhere else. There are comparable features in space.
